Why GNI?
If you’re suffering from a neurological condition affecting the brain or spine that needs surgical intervention, Georgia Neurosurgical Institute combines Middle Georgia’s most experienced neurosurgeons along with the latest medical technology to provide the best surgical care possible.
Our surgeons have exclusively handled the neurosurgical trauma call for Atrium Health Navicent since it gained Level One Trauma status in 1998. The hospital’s designation ensures that the GNI surgeons are very familiar with the most traumatic and complicated conditions that affect the brain and spine.
While some people may think of a neurosurgeon for brain work only, they are also the top choice for back procedures as well. At Georgia Neurosurgical Institute, patients are in the safest hands possible to find the road to recovery.

Update: Had a myelogram done and found out I had some bone spurs irritating the nerve that goes down to my legs and feet.
Went and had an injection in my lower back to see if it would alleviate the numbness in my leg and feet. That was 05-12-2025 and it could take as many as 7 days to have any affect on the numbness. It’s only been 2 days and I’m patiently waiting to see if it helps. If not Dr. Smisson said he would go in and put a clamp on I’m thinking L5 and S1 to create some room for the irritated nerve. Dr. Smisson and the whole staff really care about you and want to help you in the best way for you. I would recommend anyone to them. I believe you would benefit from a visit to Dr. Smisson. Thank you so much for what you have done for me so far. See you in about a month for my follow up.. Thanks
