Dr. Cory Adamson, MD, PhD, MPH, MHSc, FAANS, FACS

Georgia Neurosurgical Institute is pleased to welcome Dr. Cory Adamson to our practice. Dr. Adamson comes to us with extensive fellowship training, clinical experience, and research experience in all types of brain tumors, most notably malignant gliomas. With operative skills that include endoscopic and minimally invasive procedures, Dr. Adamson is available for a full breadth of neurosurgical procedures in neuro-oncology, trauma, hydrocephalic conditions, the peripheral nerves, and the spine.

Dr. Adamson received his MD and PhD in 1998 from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, where his PhD thesis earned the highest award for research by a student, before receiving his Master of Public Health (MPH) in Biostatistics from Johns Hopkins School of Public Health in 1999. He then received training at Duke Neurosurgery in Durham, North Carolina, including a fellowship in basic science research on malignant adult and pediatric gliomas. During this time, he studied under world-renowned neurosurgeon Dr. Allan Freidman and leading cancer researcher and physician Dr. Darell Bigner. In 2007, while at Duke Neurosurgery, Dr. Adamson completed his Master of Health Science (MHSc) degree in Clinical Research.

After training, Dr. Adamson joined the faculty at Duke University, where he stayed for ten years before transitioning to Emory School of Medicine for seven years. While at Duke, he served as Chief of Neurosurgery for the Durham Veterans’ Administration (VA) Healthcare System. He served in a similar role at the Atlanta VA Medical Center while on faculty at Emory, where he was an Associate Professor of Neurosurgery and Director of the Molecular Neuro-Oncology Lab.

Dr. Adamson received teaching awards during his employment at Duke Neurosurgery and service awards for his work in the VA system. Dr. Adamson has also been named a Top Doctor in Atlanta for seven years.
