Macon, GA, December 1, 2017 – Georgia Neurosurgical Institute, with practice offices in Macon, Warner Robins, Dublin, Griffin and Milledgeville, today announced the recent trip of Joe Sam Robinson, Jr., MD and Arthur Grigorian, MD to Paraguay for the 2017 Annual Conference of the Paraguayan Neurosurgical Society where both surgeons served as featured guest lecturers of the meeting.  GNI has enjoyed a long-standing relationship with the neurosurgical society of Paraguay as part of its international education mission over the years.

Dr. Robinson’s presentation addressed the allocation of neurosurgery assets between the developed and “still developing” world. He gave an in-depth analysis of healthcare priorities and expenditures in different countries and explained the difficulties of achieving worldwide neurosurgical care as the population ages.  In one lecture Dr. Grigorian discussed modern treatment and the latest guidelines for ischemic stroke care. He looked at the history and evolution of stroke treatment and presented a novel device for clot retrieval in ischemic stroke cases.  In a second lecture, Dr. Grigorian outlined the controversies and most current guidelines between medical and surgical management of traumatic brain injuries. He specifically talked in detail about the role of intracranial pressure (ICP), hypothermia, and progesterone with regard to outcome in adult and pediatric patients.

Both surgeons are designated honorary members of the Paraguay Neurosurgical Society.
