The Journal of Rheumatology and Arthritic Diseases recently accepted a paper for publication from the GNI Department of Research. The paper, authored by Hollis Floyd, Dr. Mazen Sanoufa, and Dr. Joe Sam Robinson, reviewed the cases of all elective lumbar fusion procedures performed by five GNI neurosurgeons from October 2010 to November 2013. Upon conclusion of the research, it was determined that female patients stay in the hospital longer than male counterparts following lumbar fusion surgeries. The research showed that there may be a link between pain and estrogen levels as estrogen affects the central nervous system, which correlates directly to the brain and spinal cord.
