New technology is infiltrating operating rooms to create a safer, more successful environment. One of the most revolutionary pieces of equipment that the surgeons at Georgia Neurosurgical Institute use during spine surgeries is Mazor Robotics.
Mazor Robotics offers a plethora of benefits to patients. Learn more about the way this incredible technology is used:
How Mazor Robotics Works
Spine surgery with Mazor Robotics can be broken down into four simple steps:
- Pre-operative plan
- Mount
- 3D Sync
- Operation
During the pre-operative plan, the patient’s CT scan is uploaded to Mazor software. Using the software, the surgeon can view a 3D model of the spine. This allows the surgeon to see any potential issues or challenges that may arise. Additionally, the pre-operative plan enables a detailed blueprint to be developed for strategic placement during surgery.
After the pre-operative plan is complete, a mount is selected. Mazor technology offers four different types of mounts: clamp mount, multi-directional bridge mount, bed mount, and hover-t mount. The mount is attached to the patient’s spine. Once the mount is attached, a 3D marker is secured to the mount. The marker takes and sends pictures of the pre-operative plan in order to match the blueprint and the intra-operative anatomy.
Using the plan, mount, and 3D marker, the surgeon is now able to operate. The surgeon uses the instruments during the entire surgery to ensure complete accuracy.
